The Carnivore's Dilema -Matt

While traditionally we have focused on the omnivore’s dilemma on the treatment of animals, the issue because even more pointed when talking about carnivores. Through this anecdote I am representing the majority of Americans, who live by the fast food lines. We all saw how disastrous it was in Super Size Me, and even more so in My 600 pound life. Face it, America is fat. We overeat partially because our marketing machine tells us fast, greasy, tasty, is better than healthy and nutritious. This issue becomes somewhat personal for me. I have worked in a retail store called DXL Destination XL, where they sell, you got it, extra large clothes.

Having comfortable clothes is never a bad thing, but when a person is 5 or 6 extra large, there are enormous health consequences. One of the employees was an obese man. One day, he didn’t show up for work because he died in his sleep. This was a tragedy he was only 28. Thus the carnivores dilemma is maintaining a healthier lifestyle in the fast food capital of the world. We must focus on improving the health of the nation as well as the way it is produced.

This is tragic and sad. It is even more tragic that this appears to be a norm. Our food industry is based on profit. The fact that we have to call it an industry is a problem. Food is a huge problem that leads to many health issues. If we solved the food problems we would not have to spend so much money on health care. America just does not seem to get it. America likes to deal with problems once they are problems and does nothing to prevent them. The American dream is all about money and is selfish. When is America going to wake up and actually fix the problems from the root? When private companies stop influencing law makers with lots of money. That's when.
